NJ Has A Quiet Festival
From @SouthwestAir’s magazine, Spirit:
Ocean City, New Jersey: Quiet Festival
With incessant phone rings, email pings, and text message dings, it’s enough to make a person want to scream, “Shut up already!” Mark Soifer, Ocean City’s public relations director, has founded a rather hush-hush event for those tired of the world’s racket. For nine days (November 10 through 19), the sounds of silence will descend upon this beachside town, just over an hour northwest of Philly, in the form of curious, sound-free activities sure to keep Snooki, The Situation, and the rest of theJersey Shore cast away—though, admittedly, fist pumps don’t really make noise. Included in the Quiet Festival’s roster is a yawn-along to “Beautiful Dreamer,” silent movies, mimes, and performances by the World’s Only Wind Chimes Band. Weird? Yes. Therapeutic? Definitely. After pausing for a moment of silence in this festival’s honor, turn down the volume and peace out.
